The Roman captain who managed the jail looked at the man who stood before him. He turned and addressed his men: “So, gentlemen, what we have here is a runaway. Just another runaway slave.”

That man was Onesimus, who had fled from his master, Philemon of Colossae. But is that all Onesimus would ever be? A fugitive? A runaway? Destined to die on the streets of Rome or to be sold on to another rich family? How could he ever achieve the true freedom for which he had been searching all his life?
