Help - Back Issues
I want to purchase a back issue on your website but can't find it.
Unfortunately, electronic products, including back issues, are temporarily unavailable on our new website and will appear in our online store soon. We are working hard to reinstate all former functionality as soon as possible.
I can't find my previously bought back issues in my account dashboard.
We are in the process of developing the downloadable Ebook and Magazine functionality and hope to restore all previously purchased electronic products into the relevant customer accounts within the coming weeks. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and ask that you get in touch with us through firstname.lastname@example.org if you urgently need a product to be emailed to you.
What format are the back issues of The Christadelphian in?
For magazines from 2001 onward, they are saved as PDF files, the most universal format, which operates on the majority of devices.
What device(s) will the back issues work on?
The Christadelphian Magazine download (2001-on):
We have not tested the back issues on all the different devices available today, but know it works on:
- Computers / Laptops (Windows / Mac OS / Linux)
- Tablets (iOS / Android / Windows 8)
- Smartphones (iOS / Android / Windows Phone 7 & 8)
It should work on other devices able to read PDFs although it might not work on all devices out-of-the-box; it may be necessary to download a PDF-reading application first. Please refer to the device’s operating instructions. We know that it works on the following applications:
- Adobe Reader (Windows / Mac OS / Linux / iOS / Android / Windows Phone)
- Kindle (Windows / Mac OS / iOS / Android / Windows Phone)
- iBooks (iOS / Mac OS 10.9+)
If you have tried devices or software not on this list and found it does (or doesn't) work, please let us know and we can include it here.
How big is the download?
The back issues file is pretty big (around 160MB), so make sure you have enough space on your device(s) to save it!
I have a computer and a tablet. Can I download the same issue to both devices?
Of course. You can download it onto as many devices as you own. However, as we put a lot of effort into producing these back issues of The Christadelphian, we ask it is used for personal purposes only, and is not passed on to people outside your household.
Can I pass on my copy of the back issues to a friend?
No. As we spend a lot of time producing the magazine, we ask that you don't pass it on to people outside your household.
How do I download the back issues?
After you have checked out the order for the back issues, they are automatically added to the 'Downloads' section of your account. In order to access this section you need to be signed in to your online account, then go to My Account > Downloads.
Once you are in your downloads section, you can click on the back issues file to download it to your device.
The file to be downloaded is big (about 160MB) so you need to be sure that you have enough space for it. Your computer or device will have its own protocol for saving such downloads in an appropriate location, but if you have subscribed to the electronic version of “The Christadelphian” and want to be able to search this download and the more recent issues, create a folder on your computer and put the download and the monthly issues into that folder.
How do I open and search the back issues?
If you haven’t already got Adobe Reader installed on your computer, install it first (it's a free download). Adobe keeps updating the software, so you might want to check that you’ve got the latest version. Using the Reader, locate the downloaded file, which is called “magazine_2001-2010” and you can then search within the PDF using the “Find” or “Advanced Search” facility (both accessed in the “Edit” menu).
If you are opening it on other devices (such as tablet or smartphone), open it in the same way as other PDFs (this will vary depending on what device you are using).
How do I search through all the magazines on my computer?
If you have grouped your other electronic issues of the magazine with this download on your computer, search the entire folder using the “Advanced Search” facility. The software will then search all those issues, but the recently monthly magazines will not have the same “copy and paste” flexibility. That will be provided when the next 5-yearly update becomes available.
How do I browse through the back issues?
If you want to browse rather than search, use the Bookmark facility in the Reader which distinguishes the ten years in question and is indexed on a month-by-month basis.
I've accidentally deleted my copy of the back issues. Can I download it again?
Of course. There are no limitations on the number of times you can download the back issues. It can be accessed by signing into your account and viewing your downloads (My Account > Downloads).
Can I copy and paste articles from the back issues?
Of course. The back issues are personalised with a purchaser's name and email address on every page. For copyright protection, the back issues do not allow any modification, but you can copy text from the PDF. However, we ask that you only use this for your own personal use and / or study.
Why does my name and email address appear on the back issues?
Our back issues do not contain any password-restricted Digital Rights Management (DRM), as this causes difficulties for readers. Inclusion of names and email addresses is a simple deterrent to those who might consider copying the back issues to others. If this is done, we know who by!
